I posted this on the Wallingford Patch about Drop Boxes for drugs. "I am watching local TV withRead More the Wallingford Town Council and the Mayor debating putting in a Drop Box. I did not know what a Drop Box is and I am finding out it is a place to leave medicine that is not used. Mayor Dickinson has excuses for everything. In the case of the Drop Boxes he either says he does not know, he talks to the police, anyone can put something in a Drop Box that might be dangerous, how much it would cost and more. The people that had questions said there is grant money for the boxes. The people question the council but one woman brought up the Mayor is the only one that answers the questions. I find the Mayor is like a bully. I do not see many issues on the Wallingford Patch about the way the town addresses issues. To me the issue is not Drop Boxes, it is how the Mayor takes over and answers all the questions. I have seen him at times being very rude to people and the council members say nothing. I cannot believe one man, Mayor Dickinson can be in office so long and not listen to people of Wallingford and still keep getting elected, something is not right."

I think KKK are unloved morons but come on, why is the media so shy to tell us about black andRead More Hispanic hate groups (ganmgs dude, gangs) that killed a lot more in a year than the KKK in 40 years, ei? Again, KKK is a great way of becoming insane quick as hate drives one insane but it is the media telling us how melting pot is bad...nope, it is not, becoming freaking americans first then blacks and Hispanics and there will be no-more kkk except in prisons. Today when the media doesn't tell you the race of the suspect you just know it's black and if they mention "rights" or" pastor phlegger"when reporting about an Hispanic suspect you know the guy is an illegal so duh, kkk is refusing to join the cartoons...so make fun of them all you want...if the media and society doesn't start hanging the bastards regardless of the race we will all end up joining kkk and that's sad. I say hang the suspects first and look at his race second not the other way around. It is not kkk we need to fear, it is the media and their insane mission to make us believe we are all equal. We are not: some are lazy, some are ugly, some are dumb, some are violent and some deserve not one but 3 or four executions...we are not equal, even Lenin figured that out (and died quickly after "seeing the light") so stop sugarcoating anything black ort Hispanic related and demonizing anything white. It is not about race but it could be...and we wouldn't want that now, would we?

Actually this is usually a sign of gestational diabetes. But not always....Alison and Erin. AndRead More BIGBAKER I've heard of bigger babies being born at home years ago too but that gets into the whole accuracy of the way they were weighed. My daughter weighed 9lb 1oz. I'm average size. My birth weight was around 7 pounds. My husband was a premie and weighed about 5 pounds. But he was a big man. Not huge. He was 6ft 1in and weighed about 190 at his heaviest. I'm 5' 3" and weighed 165 at full term. Sometimes the size of the baby is determined by ancestors long dead! My son weighed 7lb 12oz and he was born 4 weeks premature! Imagine where he was headed! So don't go blaming things that may have NOTHING to do with it!

" Prosecutors contend he planned to murder the two teens and waited in the basement with aRead More bottle of water, a book, energy bars and two guns" How did he know that these kids were going to show up? Did he invite them just to kill them? If that's the case, it was premeditated. He shot one of them in the face after he was down and said he wanted them dead. I'd call that guilty of murder. His attorney is calling it stress.

I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.
Michael Hipp April 24, 2014 at 03:03 pm
Oh, one last point on your last post B. Dub. "Hillary presidency combined with a DemocraticRead More Congress." Ain't gonna happen. Republicant's have gerrymandered the states to absolute death. Bob West April 24, 2014 at 06:20 pm
@ eddie, I wouldn't mention any specific phone-calling service in case any other arseholes areRead More looking for tips. But for better or worse, those calls are traceable. They have "add-ons" that can fool your friends, but certainly not the NSA. BTW, that phone service was bought by Microsoft a couple of years ago- so much for any illusion of confidentiality. By using it, you "opt in" to give up your privacy, just like with G-mail. Using a computer to make a prank call is a dumb move in itself. Any computer transmits a wealth of information. Non-smart phones are a lot less traceable than anything else. Have you ever seen how many items advertisers and other web sites use to uniquely identify your computer? They can't tell your name but track your unique computer. It's called "computer fingerprinting." As soon as you give your name at a web site they track, they've got you. Check this site sometime to see how unique your computer is-- https://panopticlick.eff.org/ .... I suspect that nobody's putting much effort into tracing this call, because in the big scheme of things, they've got more serious things to deal with. (Unfortunately, unlike our local PDs.) Shame this idiot got so much publicity from his crime. I think the glorifying news "perp walk" should be stopped in virtually all cases.

Very good responses. Perhaps Mr Improta would outline his solutions for us.
Andrew Wiggin April 23, 2014 at 10:59 am
Paul is absolutely correct. These are boiler plate letters that a low level staffer crafted and hadRead More auto signed. Notice they address none of the specifics of Ms. Antolini letter? These two men have been involved in CT politics for well over a decade each, true leaders would have addressed this before it got to this point.
Paula Antolini April 23, 2014 at 12:29 pm
Thanks for the "luck" Paul, but we should not need "luck" to address and remedyRead More safety issues in our community. The point of this article is to show the responses from the two senators, and allow you to make your own conclusions. Another point is to spread awareness about this safety issue and inspire residents to actively participate in creating positive change in the community regarding ALL safety issues. This means contacting those who can remedy the situation and not stopping there. If you do nothing, then you have no right to complain about any of it, and live with the safety hazards consequences. Unfortunately people wait until after a disaster happens to act on safety measures. Sad. In this case Improta and Wiggin are correct, no mention was made of the main issue of the traffic warning signs to alert about a train approach and malfunctioning gates etc.. Only one individual (Boucher) understood the problem and wrote back to the DOT ask for a clarification on the original answer she had received from the DOT, her response to me read in part "We emailed the DOT to ask what the status of that request is. So far they have responded with general information about safety on the Danbury line, and the stop and warn policy. Our office has written back to clarify that we are looking for information specifically about the request to install temporary signage on Greenwood Avenue." Eventually the DOT responded and said they would not supply the signs: http://bethel.patch.com/groups/paula-antolinis-blog/p/dot-to-bethel-no-traffic-warning-signs-needed-at-train-crossings-9th-update

I got you Kevin. I f you delete the point of contention then the debate is incoherent. The BlackRead More Panther of poetry was defending his viewpoint. I disagree with race based politics but he was standing up in the arena of ideas Then poof...( hello Patch?)... he was gone. I know the Panthers have a terror tactic history, but I thought media has forgiven the past. In Philly 08, Holder allowed military uniformed poll watchers to prevent any 2nd party participation with obvious intimidation. I appreciate Patch. We gotta talk this stuff out. Maybe the panther crossed the line his last comment we did not see, and they scrubbed up a bit. What ever happened, I do appreciate the Patch forums. It is a good local thing for info and exchange. If it becomes editorially dysfunctional, then we all will move on to a more open forum.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

"Agreements or addenda" are not part of the Common Core. Again, if states are doing theirRead More own thing by adding stuff or agreeing to do something different, it isn't Common Core.

If it's on the internet it must be true? A small group of parents make up some "facts" andRead More post it on random news sites. So it must be true? I'm in favor of trusting the actual sources of the program over a blog that someone created because they are afraid of their kids getting a better education.
Susan Harris April 24, 2014 at 08:49 pm
For CT the Common Core is common sense. For over 30 years student achievement has been on theRead More decline. Over time this has adversely affected the urban neighborhood, the middle class, businesses, and the economy. How do we know the CC standards will lead to a better education than the standards that led to our decline? The CC are rigorous standards in reading and math designed to up student achievement in order for our kids to be prepared for career and/or college. This is what sets them apart from the past standards. Why should anyone apologize, feel bad, or over explain what needs to be done because the CC is being misconceived for whatever reason? We are not NY or MASS or a handful of other states that already have solid state education standards in place. And this is not the time to revert to the old standards that got us into this mess. Those are the choices. But this is the good news I have experienced this week in the urban school that I volunteer in 3 days a week using CC standards. Students in 2nd grade are reading chapter books about animals, writing sentences, illustrating a part of the story with their artwork and noting new vocabulary words in their handmade books. Most of all I notice a sense of purpose, that this is important from the students themselves. In a 4th grade class students were doing long division problem. In the science classroom 5th grade students were studying the water cycle and writing a report about it. Teachers are embracing the greater challenge of using standards that challenge their students and students are embracing the challenge.
