The Town of Bethel posted on their Facebook page today at 2:50 p.m.:
ATTN BETHEL: The Walnut Hill bridge is open as of 3:00pm today. Construction is complete; barriers and detour signs are being removed this afternoon. Center line painting will occur in a few weeks, giving the fresh asphalt surface time to cure to improve adhesiveness. PLEASE DRIVE WITH CARE. There are homes with small children in this neighborhood who have gotten used to having very little traffic on this road. Police will be enforcing traffic rules and speed limits.
Residents were unsure the bridge would open on time due to numerous delays. A resident reported a vandalism incident Saturday morning on the construction site. Vandals wrote graffitti of lewd words and obscenities on construction vehicles, Jersey barriers and the road itself with red spray paint.
Bethel resident William Duff has announced he is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandals. For more information, click here.
Bethel residents are urged to contact the Bethel Police with tips or information at (203) 743-5500.
