Photos: Community Pool Committee's First 5K

Several residents ran just more than three miles Sunday morning to raise money for starting a community pool.

As its first fundraiser, the held a 5k race around the David Deakin Educational Park Sunday morning.

Using the slogan "Making the Dream A Reality," the first fundraising goal for the committee is to raise $30,000 to fund professional plans and drawings for the new pool, which would be used to gain sponsorship and donors.

More than a hundred runners, which included Bethel First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker, lined up at 10 a.m. for start the race, with participant Kevin Crowell finishing first at just over 18 minutes and 50 seconds.

Bethel High School Principal and committee member, Dr. Patricia Cosentino said: "It was big success as our first fund raising effort. We really appreciate everyone in the community that came out to run today and to our volunteers."
