Morning Glory to Hold Luncheon at Plain Jane's

Local breakfast program holds fundraiser in Bethel.

On Sunday, April 10, Morning Glory, a local breakfast program, will hold its second annual fundraiser luncheon at  in Bethel.

Since October 2007, Catholic Charities has sponsored the program that serves a healthy, hot breakfast to the homeless and financially disadvantaged of the Greater Danbury Area. Morning Glory is open between the hours of 6:30-9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday at the , located at 11 Spring Street, in Danbury.

Board member and Bethel resident, Amy Mannion said while Dorothy Day provides the organization with space, Morning Glory supplements all the supplies to feed about 70 people a day.

"Our biggest issue is funding and trying to have enough money to meet supply and demand," Mannion said. "Within the past year, the demand has gotten higher. We have more families coming, more young people, people who can't find jobs or are making minimum salaries." 

All the proceeds made at Sunday's event will go directly to the Morning Glory program. The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. and tickets are $30 per person, which include a pre fixe menu, mimosas/Bloody Marys and live jazz music.

Several items will also be auctioned off, including gift certificates from ,,  ,  and.

Morning Glory also accepts donations year round. Healthy cereals, complete pancake mix, syrup, coffee, gift cards to local grocery stores and financial donations can be made to Morning Glory during hours of operation or to the Catholic Chariites office located at 24 Grassy Plain St., Bethel, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
