By Eliette Matos

MOMS CLUB OF BETHEL TO HOLD “HEALTHY FAMILIES, HAPPY LIVES” COMMUNITY EVENT Bethel, CT – The MOMS Club of Bethel will be holding “Healthy Families, Happy Lives” on Sunday, June 3 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center, 1 School Street, Bethel, CT.

This free community event will feature vendors and information tables, a variety of items for raffle, and refreshments for sale. In addition, the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury will offer free workshops on teen dating violence, cyber safety, and bullying. Childcare and games for kids will also be available at this family-friendly event. All proceeds from the event will go to the Women’s Center for Greater Danbury and the Lucas Storey Scholarship Fund. Lucas Storey tragically lost his mother to domestic violence last year. He is the nephew of Bethel resident and MOMS Club of Bethel chapter founder Cindy Rizzo.

“The tragedy that occurred to Lucas Storey's family is truly horrific.  We can never bring back Lucas' mother, Michelle.  As tragic as this is, we are fortunate to have organizations like the Women's Center of Greater Danbury to help in trying times such as these.  I hope that the community will join us in not only learning about how to prevent such adversities, but also helping to raise awareness and funds to help both of these worthy causes”, Alycia Matchen, President of Mom’s Club of Bethel, said.

Domestic violence has a tremendous impact on communities. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), an estimated 1.3 million women are physically abused by their partners every year.

“We are so grateful to the Moms Club of Bethel for providing us with the proceeds of this event.  As a non-profit organization, it is this type of community support that enables us to be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for all adults and children needing our free and confidential help and services”, said the Executive Director of Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, Pat Zachman.

The MOMS Club is an international non-profit organization dedicated to offering support to at-home moms, with over 1,800 chapters in seven countries and 85,000 members worldwide. The Bethel chapter was founded in May 2004 and now has nearly 40 members. MT Strategies is a public relations firm that maximizes the ability of our clients in reaching their goals. "Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
