Surge in Coyote Sightings Leaves Many Questions for Area Residents

A recent surge in coyote sightings, particularly along the Nashville Road corridor and neighborhoods surrounding Chestnut Ridge Reservoir, has area families abuzz.

"We don't let our [daughter] Fluffy and [cat] Veronica out unattended anymore, especially around sunset," said resident Joe Piltdown. "It's really got us unnerved."

Connecticut DEP officials were on the scene early Wednesday morning.

"We haven't been able to even spot, let alone capture, any coyotes as of yet," said DEP ranger Mark Chass. "But we've definitely seen evidence of significant coyote activity out here. It's 100% confirmed."

So far, that evidence has included several sticks of dynamite with a "TNT" plunger, one pair of rocket powered roller skates, a sailboat mast attached to a bathtub on wheels, and an anvil.

Oddly, all of the items are manufactured by the ACME corporation of Sioux City, Idaho.  A spokesperson for the company declined to comment about recent shipments to the area.
