The Step By Step Formula I Use to Create Traffic to My Blog Posts

So you’ve created an amazing blog post, some of the best content to hit your website yet, hit the publish button, and then waited for the traffic to start pouring in to see your brilliant creation.

 

Unfortunately, all you heard were crickets. Of course your best friend visited the site and said it was AMAZING. She’s your #1 fan :) But she’s also the ONLY fan…

 

Because you’re missing a critical piece of the blogging puzzle.

 

It doesn’t matter how great your content is. Without actively promoting your content, systematically, your blog is STILL going to be in nowheresville. Actually I take that back. Your work must be inspiring and must create great value otherwise even if it is promoted no one will read it. So the number 1 step is to of course create GREAT value. That being said….

 

* Content is only king if someone other than your mother can see it. *

 

And so, the formula of spending 80% of your day writing and 20% sharing and promoting must be given the big flip: It’s that same 80/20 rule turned on it’s head: You need to be spending 20% of your time creating great content and 80% of your time promoting it.

 

I can hear the whiners now…. “But Suzen, it took me 2 entire days to create that blog post/write that article/create that video/create that sales page. I don’t have time to now go out and spend hours promoting it.”

 

If that’s the case, forgive my tough love: you probably don’t have time to build a successful online business and this article probably isn’t for you.

This is an excellent post, Suzen. Very helpful. Thank you! One thing I would add is that Ezine articles must be original content. So you must publish it there first, and then once it is approved and published you can share it via other venues.

Thanks Colleen, and yes, that is true although I have been known to "re-purpose" older articles on Ezine- editing them into different and newer content. You also have to follow their pretty strict formatting rules, and have no links in the body of the piece. Are you a blogger?

Hi Suzen. Thanks for this step by step guide. I am new to blogging, and I have a website in the works. I'm the "Let's Save Energy" blogger. I need to look into many of your suggestions further, since I am new to this and I am not familiar with most of the websites and strategies you suggest. But having this step by step guide is a GREAT start for me. I definately need to get people to start reading my blog! thanks again for a great article here. jeff

Great tips Susan, I have been blogging since 2009 and on Patch weekly since 2011 and still only taking advantage of a couple of your tips. I need to get on the stick.

I live reading your blog Greg! Your content is interesting and unique which means it's a great candidate for positive results if you implement some of these features. Yours especially belongs on niche sites, needs a ScoopIt page if you don't have one already and a healthy Pinterest page which I hope you have. You can do this Greg and I think you'll find you'll be thrilled with the results.
