Wildcat cross country host meet on Tuesday

Highlights and pictures from Tuesday's run against Oxford, Brookfield and Lauralton Hall

On Tuesday Oct. 5, Bethel's cross country girls and boys teams went up against Oxford, Lauralton Hall and Brookfield in a combined meet at home.

Though beat by Oxford 22-33, the girls team won against Brookfield 21-34 and Lauralton Hall 20-43. First in for Bethel was Sarah Whalen, followed by Jacqueline Mancher.

The girls team so far is 8-4 according to Coach Mark Goodwin. The team is led by Whalen, Mancher, Cara McAteer, Kelsey Parsons, Nicole D'Arco, Rosie O'Neil, Kayla Lance and Stephanie Hirst. The final regular season meet will be at Newtown along with Immaculate and Pomperaug on Oct 12. The Wildcats will host the SWC Championship meet on Oct. 21 and will run in the Class MM meet on Oct. 30 in Manchester.

Tuesday's meet with the boys team going against Oxford and Brookfield went well with Bethel placing in the top 10. Brendan Zielinski came in first for Bethel and 6th overall in the meet. He was followed by Paul Andersen, Andrew Albin, Brian Michalka and Matt Correnty. Overall, the Wildcat boys beat Oxford 21-37 but lost against Brookfield 15-48.

Led by Coach Gene Waring, the team is currently 8-5. The Bethel Boys Cross Country also looks forward to hosting SWC  Championship on Oct. 21. To see a complete boys cross country schedule, click here
