Bethel Lacrosse Lady Wildcats Lose a Heartbreaker to Joel Barlow 11-10 in Overtime

The Bethel Lady Wildcats came up short in a back and forth contest which had to be settled in overtime.  After trailing at halftime 6-4, Bethel began to mount their comeback with three unanswered goals to take the lead 7-6.  Behind Stephanie Hirst’s 6 goal performance, Bethel exchanged goals and took a slim 10-9 lead into the final two minutes of the game.  However, Joel Barlow’s defense forced a turnover and after a wild, four shot, scramble in front of Bethel’s goalie Stephanie Forese, Joel Barlow scored the tying goal with 8 seconds to play.

The overtime sessions were no different than regulation as both teams had chances to notch the game winner.  Joel Barlow scored late in the second overtime session and was able to outlast Bethel’s last ditch scoring drive to win the contest.

Third year Head Coach Shelly DeSisto was pleased with the effort the girls gave and felt Bethel sent a message to the rest of the league.  “It’s tough when you lose a tight game like this because it wasn’t from lack of intensity or effort” commented DeSisto.  “Sometimes the ball bounces in your favor and sometimes it doesn’t.  What’s important now is that we prepare for two other SWC games this week against Brookfield and New Fairfield”.

Bethel Scoring:

Stephanie Hirst                 6 goals

Serina Ghio                       2 goals  1 assist

Anna Fiorini                      1 goal

Brooke Ferraro                 1 goal

Goalie, Stephanie Forese 15 saves

On a special note, Bethel will be honoring their seniors this Thursday, May 10th after their game with Brookfield at 5:00.  The day long festivities begin with a junior varsity game on Rockwell Field at 3:30 following by the varsity at 5:00.  After the varsity game, the senior girls and boys will be recognized in a joint ceremony before the start of the boy’s game against New Fairfield.

Jessica, what do you mean 'when society lets them down'? I'm struggling to understand what you areRead More trying to convey... Please elaborate if you can.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?

It was a great job Mike and the EDC did on keeping the jobs from Cannondale from leaving Bethel. TooRead More bad Paul Z. won't have the guts to ask you about it on this "lively" show.

Billy: Since I don't own a beat up 1998 Honda (rather, a non-beat up, rather nice, rather newRead More European sedan) does that mean I would have been immune to the seduction of the reduction in my property taxes? Just trying to follow your logic here...
