Icecats Add 2 Wins to Qualify for State Tourney

BBD qualify for CIAC Tourney with a 7-3-1 record.

The Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury (BBD) Icecats bounced back from a tough 4-2 loss at White Plains with convincing wins last week over SWC rivals Joel Barlow and Newtown.

Wednesday against Barlow senior goalkeeper Chris Walker kept the Falcons off the scoreboard while the 'Cats built up a 5-0 lead before two late goals spoiled the shutout resulting in a 5-2 final. Kevin Keiser paced the offense with a goal and an assist for BBD, who notched their sixth win of the season.

The Icecats continued their fine play Saturday at the Danbury Ice Arena with a 4-1 win over Newtown. With Walker again providing rock solid goaltending behind a tough team defense, BBD built up a 3-0 lead.

Will Lawrence got the scoring started in the first period assisted by Mark Vetter. Daivon Ruggiero followed in the second with a power play goal assisted by Steve Almeida and Joe Britton, and then, on the next shift, John Vitti scored, assisted by Trevor Kurjiaka. After the Nighthawks cut the lead to 3-1 Jordan Warren and Chris Swift combined to provide the final tally in the third period.

With the win BBD improved their record to 7-3-1 and qualified for the CIAC state tournament in March.  The Icecats will next take the ice Wednesday for a 6:40 game vs. Newington at the Danbury Ice Arena.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
