BBD Icecats Work Overtime for Win, Tie

‘Cats improve to 4-2-1 on the season.

This past week the Brookfield-Bethel-Danbury (BBD) Icecats twice found themselves down a goal late in a game on the road and rallied both times to pull out a win and a tie.

Thursday night BBD fell behind 2-0 to the Staples-Weston-Shelton Wreckers but fought back for a 6-5 win at the Milford Ice Pavilion. Billy Hunt and Daivon Ruggiero combined to cut the lead to 2-1 and Matt Hallock's power play goal evened the score at 2. After the Wreckers reclaimed the lead, Hallock again tied it with his second goal of the night. Then, trailing 4-3 in the third, it was Scott Martin's wrist shot that tied the game 4-4.

SWS answered almost immediately and carried a 5-4 lead into the final minutes of regulation when Hunt and Jordan Warren assisted on Jon Leonard's equalizer. The Icecats then held off the Wreckers for five minutes of sudden death OT until Nick Rhode picked off a pass at center ice and feed it to Will Lawrence for a breakaway and the game winner. Chris Walker had 18 saves in goal for BBD.

On Friday night the 'Cats found themselves in another battle, this time with undefeated (9-0) Horace Greeley of Chappaqua at the Brewster Ice Arena. Jordan Warren's hat trick, with his third goal coming in the last minute of play, paced the Icecats in an evenly skated game that ended in a 4-4 tie after a tense scoreless overtime period.

Trevor Kurjiaka got BBD's first goal of the night on a first period power play and Luiz Dibble stopped 22 shots between the pipes for the Icecats.

The Icecats are now 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in overtime contests. BBD will host North Haven Wednesday night at 6:40 at the Danbuty Ice Arena and travel to Watertown Friday night to take on their SWC rivals from Watertown-Pomperaug.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
