School Board Postpones Budget Meeting

The administration is reviewing safety protocols and gathering recommendations for security upgrades.

The Special Board of Education meeting soliciting community input about the 2013-2014 budget has been moved from Dec. 20 to Jan. 10, Kevin J. Smith, superintendent of schools announced Wednesday morning.

"In light of the tragedy in Newtown, peoples’ foremost concerns are for the victims and their families in Newtown and the safety of the children in our schools," he said in a release. "My administration has been diligently reviewing our safety protocols and gathering recommendations for security upgrades."

Smith said he'll provide a safety update at the Jan. 10 meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m., and he thanked the community for its understanding as the district worked through safety issues and concerns.
