ConnCAN Ranks BHS, Johnson School for Student Achievement

Bethel Superintendent Dr. Gary Chesley sent out announcement Monday afternoon, that he has received notification from the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (ConnCAN), a public interest research group, indicating that two Bethel Schools have been placed on their "Top 10" list for student achievement. 

Bethel High School is ranked number seven among all Connecticut high schools based upon the achievement of its Hispanic students. 

Johnson School is ranked second in Connecticut in Hispanic student performance and fourth in Connecticut for the performance of low income (free and reduced lunch recipients).

Both schools will be presented with a plaque by ConnCAN in recognition of this achievement.

According to its website, ConnCAN "is a platform for Connecticut citizens to effectively speak up for kids" and believes "without the right political climate, great schools will continue to elude Connecticut’s most disadvantaged children."

To close Connecticut’s gaping achievement gap, ConnCAN runs "results-oriented advocacy campaigns" through research and policy, communicaitons and mobilization and advocacy for policy change.
