Bethel Resident and WCSU Grad Begins Americorps Service Year

Recent graduate Nicole Strouth has begun helping students in Washington pursue college degrees.

Nicole Strouth graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a political science degree in December. Now the Bethel resident will begin a yearlong Americorps appointment.

“The work that I do will help to make sure that students with average grades who have the drive and desire to go on to post-secondary education will be able to obtain the skills necessary to be successful in achieving their educational goals," Struth said in a release from WCSU.

She will serve in the school district of Anacortes, on Fidalgo Island along Washington's northern Pacific coast. She says she plans to apply for the Peace Corps afterwards.

“I feel that the PeaceCorps and graduate studies will give me the opportunity to put my desire to promote peaceful development into action," she says.
