The 2013 Relay For Life of Bethel is an overnight, grassroots fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. This year's event will take place on Saturday, June 8. Since it's 2013, we'll be sharing 13 reasons why YOU should join us at Relay For Life. Reason #12 is Inspiration.

Most veteran Relayers can still recall the person who first inspired them to join the Relay For Life movement. Perhaps it was a friend, a family member, or a co-worker.
For Carol Ann Viebrock, inspiration came 14 years ago when her company formed a team for the Relay For Life of Wilton. "I decided to participate because both myself and my husband George had family members and friends that had died from cancer," she says.
Later, through Relay, Carol Ann was inspired to join CPS-3, a Cancer Prevention Study being conducted by the American Cancer Society. This study follows volunteers over many years, tracking their lifestyle choices and resulting health outcomes in order to find patterns that could lead to ways to prevent cancer.
Four years ago, Carol Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer. As part of the CPS-3, she's given the American Cancer Society permission to study her medical records in an effort to learn from them. "The idea that something may be learned from my individual cancer diagnosis and help future cancer patients is extremely rewarding to me."
At this year's Relay For Life of Bethel, it will be Carol Ann's turn to inspire others. As our Honorary Chairperson, she will be welcoming Relayers during the Opening Ceremony at 4:00 pm on June 8th, and sharing her cancer journey. "Now that I am a survivor, I am even more dedicated to the work that the American Cancer Society does with the money raised by Relay."
