Town Budget Goes Back to Bethel Voters with $230K in Cuts

Board of Finance cut back the spending request for 2014-15 ahead of the second vote next Thursday.

Bethel voters will be returning to the polls on Thursday, June 12, for the second vote on the 2014-15 municipal budget, which failed by a slim seven votes in the first referendum.

(The budget appeared to pass by three votes on the night of the referendum, however a recount reversed that outcome.)

Ahead of the next vote, the Board of Finance (BOF) reduced the proposal by $230,000, bringing the total increase year-over-year to $801,777, or 3.1 percent.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 12.

Absentee ballots are available in the Town Clerk’s Office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will also be open this coming Saturday, June 7, for absentee voting only.
