Malloy Asks Obama For More Federal Aid Due to Storm

Democratic governor mentions a collapsed former bowling alley in Waterbury in his letter to President Barack Obama.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting more federal aid due to the onslaught of storms that have hit the state.

In particular, Malloy highlighted the Jan. 12 storm which dumped record numbers of snow in areas of Connecticut. Naugatuck declared a state of emergency following the storm, which allows borough officials to apply for aid to recoup from spending.

A bowling alley that collapsed in Waterbury on Wednesday was mentioned in the letter.

“I write, first, to alert you that I am preparing a request for federal assistance to address the impacts of the record snowstorm on January 11-12,” Malloy says in his letter.  “I also want to make clear that this aid is intended to begin to help meet the mounting costs associated with the historic winter weather system that has already stretched both state and local resources to and beyond the breaking point, with at least two months of winter weather still to follow.”
