From May's Town Newsletter: Farmers Market, Road Updates

The following is a excerpt from Bethel's May Town Newsletter. A copy of the complete letter can be found at the town website, bethelct.org.

First Selectman Matthew Knickerbocker shared the following two announcements in May's Town Newsletter:

Downtown Farmers Market: As I’m sure many of you read in recent , plans are well under way toward establishing a summertime farm market on the lawn of the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center in downtown Bethel. The market is tentatively scheduled for launch on July 7 and will be open every Thursday night from 3-6 p.m. through mid-September. The intent of establishing a farm market downtown goes far beyond the simple goal of providing fresh produce and prepared foods; I see it as an important component of the town’s economic health. Establishing a regular shopping pattern will boost visits to our historic village area, and I believe will help bring new retail businesses to our town. I encourage all local growers and prepared food vendors who may be interested in obtaining a space at the market to contact for an information packet and an application.

Phase I of Road Renewal Plan: I know many of you are very anxious to see work begin on our roads. Phase I of the project is now underway, with tree clearing and new drainage pipe and catch basins being readied for installation. Weather permitting, the road milling equipment should begin the process of stripping off the old road surface by the middle of May. Please click the “Road Update” link on the town website to see the list of roads that will be repaired this season. This is a good start, but we’ll still be left with about 24 miles of roads to be fixed. I plan to bring the next phase of the Road Renewal Project before town voters for approval this  coming fall.
