What is the worst storm in U.S. history?

In terms of loss of life, the Galveston Storm of 1900 is the worst. An estimated 6,000 to 7,200 people died in that storm. Worldwide, however, far greater disasters have occurred. In Bangladesh in 1970, one hurricane killed more than an estimated 300,000 people.
