17 CT Towns Where You’re Most Likely to Die Early
Counting down the towns with the most potential life lost.
For the last individual metric in our series on the safest and most dangerous towns in Connecticut, this week Patch is looking at lifespan, specifically, the number of years of potential life lost in each community from 2006-2010.
The Years of Potential Life Lost (YPLL) index, as used by the state Department of Public Health (DPH), measures premature mortality by the aggregate number of potential years that would have been lived if those persons made it to age 75, the U.S. average.
The Adjusted YPLL weighs younger deaths more heavily (to adjust for the higher number of elderly deaths), as well as taking into account population to provide for a better town-by-town comparison.
