Two Bicyclists Hit by Bethel Driver Tuesday

More details have emerged from Tuesday's bicycle accident that occurred on Church Campground Road in Bethel.

Around 10 a.m. Tuesday, two bicyclists were hit by driver Margaret Buckley, 83 of Deer Run in Bethel, on Church Campground Road, off Route 53.

Buckley was heading south on Route 53 and "made a left turn in front of both bicyclists (who were heading north) while attempting to enter St. Mary's Cemetery," according to the police report. 

The two bicyclists were identified as Vincent Lore, 32 of Wooster Street in Bethel, and Maria Dumoulin, 38 of Westwood Drive in Middlebury.

Lore was struck by the left front side of the vehicle, while Dumoulin ran into the right side of the vehicle, causing both to be ejected from their bicycles. Both were transported to Danbury Hospital via Bethel ambulance and are being treated for serious injuries.

Buckley was charged with making an unsafe left turn.

Sgt. David Bruckenthal and Officer Brian Diana are the investigating officers in the case.
