Two Arrested in Bethel Friday Morning for Marijuana Related Charges

Both arrests occur during the early morning hours on Friday, May 20.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Friday, the Bethel Police stopped a vehicle on Route 53 near Mansfield Street after it ran a red light. After being pulled over, an officer "smelled the odor of burnt marijuana from inside the vehicle" and after a search he discovered "15 baggies...and two additional sandwich zip lock bags of marijuana, a total weight of 1.6 oz." Aderall prescription pills and $473 in cash were also found inside the vehicle.

The driver, Elvis Espinal, 33 of Whaley Street in Danbury, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a prescription drug, prescription drug with intent to sell and failure to keep a prescription in its original container. Espinal was released on $10,000 bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court on Tuesday, May 31 at 9:30 a.m.

Earlier in the evening, around 1 a.m., the Bethel Police also investigated Alexander Olive, of Greenwood Drive in Cheshire, after him and his vehicle were parked "suspiciously" at Target on Stony Hill. Upon speaking with Olive, Bethel Police were able to detect the oder of marijuana within the vehicle and a search produced a small amount of the drug. Olive was charged with possession of marijuana and was issued a misdemeanor summons. He was given a court date of Tuesday, May 31.
