TD Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested at Southington Business

Officers took Brandon Dlugos, 24, into custody Wednesday morning after a local business owner reported a man matching Dlugos description acting suspiciously along the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

Southington police have arrested a man believed to have committed a bank robbery at the TD Bank branch on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike earlier this week.

A tip from a local business owner along the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike led officers to find Brandon Dlugos, 24, at a "local business" late Wednesday morning. He was taken into custody without incident, according to a press release from the Southington Police Department.

Dlugos, a frequent visitor in the Southington area according to police, is facing charges of third-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. He is currently being held in lieu of a $200,000 bond and is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on Thursday.

Police have not said where Dlugos lives.

Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said police were able to identify and locate Dlugos thanks in part to numerous tips from the public, including from a business owner who alertly contacted police just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Southington Police received a report of a person acting suspiciously inside the business and also that this same suspicious person matched the description of Dlugos," Dobratz said.

Police said media reports, including those by Southington Patch, were essential in helping lead to Dlugo's arrest.

It is alleged that on Monday just before 5 p.m., Dlugos entered the TD Bank on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and proceeded to pass a note demanding cash. No weapon was shown or implied and no one was hurt, police said.

The robbery was one of three that occurred in a 14-hour period on Monday and early Tuesday. Farmington Bank was robbed just before noon Monday morning and the 7-11 store on Queen Street was robbed just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to police reports.

Descriptions of the suspect and events of the robberies were similar at each location, although the suspect at each was wearing different clothing.

Investigations into the Farmington Bank robbery and the 7-11 robbery continue. Police are not saying whether they believe the cases may be connected at this time.

Anyone with information on these robberies is also asked to call the Southington Police Department at (860) 621-0101 or (860) 378-1698.
