Bethel Fire Department Warns of Donation Phone Scam

Residents have reported getting calls asking for donations — they're not coming from the department.

Bethel Fire Department is warning residents that someone has been calling around pretending to be affiliated with the volunteer company and soliciting donations.

“We never ask for donations over the phone,” Lt. Brendan Ryan said Tuesday, explaining that anything from the department would be sent out on official letterhead.

The department sends out an annual donation drive letter, which is the only official fundraising method.

Ryan encouraged anyone who get such a phone call to contact to Bethel police.
