Police: Man Allegedly Tried to Shoplift from Target, Hid Knife

Reports say the man was caught by security and police using CCTV.

 

According to police, a man was caught by store security trying to shoplift some items from the Target on Stony Hill Road, including a three-inch knife he took from the camping aisle.

30-year-old Brett Southard is accused of 6th-degree larceny following the incident. Bethel police say they got a call from Target's in-house security requesting assistance with a shoplifter concealing merchandise. Using CCTV, Target security and police allegedly saw Southard conceal the items, and Officers Diana and Perun confronted him as he tried to leave the store, according to reports.

Southard was released on $500 surety bond, according to reports.
