Police Currently Investigating Two Motor Vehicle Incidents on Route 53

Incidents both occurred early Friday morning.

In the early morning hours of Friday, April 8, the Bethel Police came across two motor vehicle incidents on Route 53, which are currently under investigation by the major accident team according to reports.

At 1:20 a.m., the police made contact with a woman stopped in her vehicle at Route 53. The driver, Maree Clancy, 44 of Danbury, "appeared under the influence of alcohol" and her vehicle had a flat tire, as well as "damage consistent with being recently involved in a collision." After failing sobriety tests, Clancy was arrested and later release on $100 bond. She is expected to appear in court on April 18.

Later at 1:36 a.m., the Bethel Police responded to a completely separate motor vehicle accident in the area of Cherry Lane on Route 53. A police officer came upon two bodies in the roadway and a Jeep off the shoulder. It was determined that the Jeep had "left the roadway and struck a utility pole causing it to roll over." Both occupants were thrown from the vehicle and were sent to Danbury Hospital due to injures.
