Police Called to Stop Suspected Drunk Driver

Incident occurred early Tuesday morning.

At 1:55 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Bethel Police were called to the Food Bag (which is a part of the Citgo) at 77 Greenwood Ave. for a "report of an intoxicated person attempting to drive his vehicle."

According to the police report, officers observed the driver, Charles Hilt, 42 of Stone Pond Terrace in Mahopac, N.Y., attempt to drive away after a witness said he drove into the Food Bag parking lot at an unusual high speed. After stopping Hilt, police conducted a standard field sobriety test, which he failed.

Hilt was arrested, charged  with operating under the influence and held on $1,000 bond.
