Police: Man Arrested on Warrant for Alleged Vehicle Donation Theft

The warrant stemmed back to a September incident when the then-VFD member solicited a vehicle donation for training purposes, according to police.

A former Bethel volunteer fire department member was arrested this week for a warrant stemming back to a 2012 incident in which he allegedly collected a vehicle for donation but never gave it to the department, according to reports from Bethel police.

Steven Lane, 49, was stopped Sunday by police who were aware of the warrant and taken into custody on a charge of 3rd-degree Larceny. Police say Lane solicited and picked up the vehicle in person and told the donor it would be used for "training purposes." It never made it to either the Department or any sort of training exercise, according to officials.

Lane was released on a $1,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on February 8.

Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions or proof of guilt.

"Bethel teachers are not only educating students, but when society lets kids down, it’sRead More teachers who step in to fill the gap." Explain to me how an average salary of $60,000 per year for working 183 days during that year and an EXTREMELY generous retirement package (compared to the 240 a year the rest of us have to work) considered "society letting them down"?
