Bethel Man Charged with Break-in at Wilton Pizza

Following information from the Bethel Police Department, Wilton Police arrested a man for a number of charges in Wilton.

Bethel man arrested by  for a number of charges, including narcotics possession, DUI and breaking into on the morning of Monday, April 15, at around 6:15 a.m.

Close to 6 a.m. a person smashed Wilton Pizza’s back window and entered the premises, spilling blood—possibly from glass wounds—before leaving the scene, according to police.

Approximately 15 minutes later, Wilton Police arrested Bryan Swift, 33, of Plumtrees Road, Bethel, after receiving certain information from Bethel Police, according to police reports. The arrest occurred after Bethel Police informed Wilton Police that the accused was likely to be in Wilton and may be connected to a same-day assault incident, police said.

Bethel Police would not elaborate on the assault incident, stating that the investigation was open and that the accused has not yet been charged with any crimes pertaining to the Bethel case.  Wilton Police were also cautious about disclosing specific information so as not to interfere with Bethel’s investigation.

Police located Swift’s vehicle in Georgetown after it had driven off the road and onto the property of , causing some unspecified amount of property damage. Upon subsequent inspection, police said the accused was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana in small quantities. The accused “failed field sobriety tests” and then refused a breathalyzer, according to police.

Wilton Police Chief Michael Lombardo said the responding patrol did a fine job on Monday.

“They did a real great job on that shift, given the limited resources” and the need for other incidents such as an additional DUI to be investigated, said Lombardo, referring to Sergeant James Dempsey and Officer Robert Nosal.

Wilton Police charged Swift with third-degree burglary, DUI, possession of marijuana, narcotics and associated paraphernalia; he is being held on a $100,000 bond.
