Firefighters Extinguish RV Trailer Fire Early Friday Morning

Information and pictures by Bethel Fire Marshal Tom Galliford.

One minute before 2 a.m. on Friday, April 15, Bethel and Stony Hill Volunteer firefighters were awoken from their sleep to the tones and dispatch of a trailer on fire near a house on Rockwell Road.

Upon arrival, Bethel Fire Chief Ingram confirmed that a tow behind a RV trailer was fully involved with no exposures. Stony Hill Engine 3 arrived and stretched a handline and went to work extinguishing the blaze.

Bethel Engine 5, Bethel Tanker 1 and Stony Hill Tanker 2 (The Deuce) also responded and provided additional manpower and water. Crews extinguished the blaze in short order, overhauled, and assisted the FMO.

The cause is still being investigated and there were no reported injuries.

Having local news delivered via the PATCH is nice but most of the time either becuase of typos or whatever I have trouble understanding what is being reported- "Upon arrival, Bethel Fire Chief Ingram confirmed that a tow behind a RV trailer fully involved with no exposures." "tow behind a RV trailer...." not sure what this was to have meant and "no exposure"? Mystery. "Crews extinguished the blaze in short order, overhauled, and assisted the FMO." OK, so I am not up on fire fighter lingo, but I am sure a lot of readers are not either. "extinguished" I understand; "overhauled" and "FMO" no idea. Can anyone help me out?

Fire Marshalls Office....and Tom Galliford was probably reporting via mobile phone or hot spot to keep us informed of the news

"exposure" as in something, a house, car, barn, shed, or what have you, that is in danger of also catching on fire based on its proximity to whatever is already burning. "Overhauled" as is in the process of finding and extinguishing any remaining hotspots, and removing debris from the burnt areas.

J. Rick-point well taken- I originally wrote this for a national web based and monthly newspaper column for Firefighters, so the "lingo" is just that; geared toward firefighters. I'm not a journalist and probably should've proof read it a little better, and Lauren Williams asked if she could use it for here and did so, as you can see I'm the author. The Patch is a great addition to Bethel and has been very useful in delivering timely accurate information in all aspects of Bethel life and hope it continues to. Thanks for the questions- and those who helped answer them here! stay Safe!

Makes sense once an expert explains it. Thank you Tom for the great input.
