Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Cement Truck Fire, Caused by Mechanical Malfunction

Fire started at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday, the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of a cement truck on fire on Apollo Road at the entrance to the Toll Brothers construction site, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Michael Connors.

Connors said upon arrival, the firefighters found an O&G Cement truck with heavy fire in the engine area and the "fire was quickly extinguished."

He also confirmed that the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was called to the scene "to address the issue of hydraulic fluid that leaked into nearby storm drains as a result of the fire."

"The cause of the fire appears to be a mechanical malfunction in the engine compartment," Connors said. "O&G representatives and DEP remained on scene to remove the truck and clean up the spilled hydraulic fluid."

No one was reported injured during the incident.
