Bethel Student Finalist in CT Fire Prevention Poster Contest

R.M.T. Johnson student a Fairfield County winner and statewide finalist.

Bethel’s Lauren Pruner, a fifth grader at R.M.T. Johnson School, was named one of Fairfield County’s winners in the statewide CT Fire Prevention Poster Recognition Program.

Her poster represented the theme “Fire Prevention — Everyone/Everyday” and was chosen among dozens from Fairfield County Schools.

The poster will be entered for the chance to be chosen as the Statewide Fire Prevention Poster and be on display at the State Capital in October during Fire Prevention Month.

All fifth grade students at Johnson School participate in the contest as well as most fourth graders. The program is a cooperative effort of the Office of State Fire Marshal, the CT Fire Marshals Association, CT DEEP, CT State Fire Chiefs Association, CT State Board of Education, and the CT FAIR Plan (representing insurance industry).

“I would like to thank Johnson School Art Teacher Tamarah McCue for working so hard on the contest every year,” Bethel Fire Marshal Thomas Galliford said. “Rockwell School Art Teacher Nancy Miller who helps with the judging of the posters at the local level, also deserves a thank you!”

Pruner and her family along with Johnson School officials will attend a statewide luncheon with the Bethel Fire Marshal in March, where each of the County Winners will be recognized and the Statewide Winner will be announced.
