Bethel Police Officer Injured During Aggressive Arrest

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning.

The Bethel police made contact with Matthew Grillo, 26, of Indian Hill Road in New Fairfield, as a passenger in a "suspicious motor vehicle" at the Bethel Train Station at 4:23 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police reports, Grillo "became aggressive and belligerent with officers and was taken into custody after a struggle." At police headquarters, he continued to resist and struggle with officers, resulting in a shoulder injury to one of the officers. The injured officer was treated at Danbury Hospital and was later released.

Grillo was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer and breach of peace in the second degree. He was held on $10,000 bond for arraignment.
