Bethel Police: 11 Month Investigation Leads to ID Theft Arrest

A Danbury man was charged with numerous crimes after Bethel police investigated a complicated identity theft crime.

Bethel Detective George Brice worked for 11 months and charged a Danbury man with three counts of identity theft, three counts of sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and second-degree false statement.

Bethel Police Captain David Bruckenthal said the investigation revealed that James Yorks, 31, of White Birch Lane, Danbury, was writing checks on another man's checking account, and he created false credit cards in the man's name as well. Bruckenthal said Yorks also gave police a false written statement in the course of the investigation. The investigation started in November 2011, and it concluded on October 3 with Yorks' arrest. Yorks was released on a $50,000 bond and his first scheduled appearance in Danbury Superior Court is Oct. 12.
