VIDEO: Fascinating Inside View of the International Space Station by Famous Astronaut Williams

Posted by Paula Antolini

What is the fate of our USA space program regarding the International Space Station (ISS)?

The International Space Station's first component was first launched in 1998 and now is the largest artificial habitable satellite. It consists of ISS components that were launched into space by American space shuttles and Russian rockets.

The original plans for this space station project, named "Freedom," which was approved by in the 1980's by then-president Ronald Reagan was never constructed or completed as originally designed, and after several cutbacks, the project evolved into the International Space Station program.  In 1993, the Clinton administration announced the transformation of Space Station "Freedom" into the "International Space Station" (ISS).

Astronaut Sunita Williams gives us a fascinating tour of the inside of the ISS in the video below.  Well worth viewing.  She holds the records for longest single space flight by a woman, (195 days), total spacewalks by a woman (seven), and most spacewalk time for a woman (50 hours, 40 minutes). Williams was assigned to the ISS as a member of Expedition 14 and Expedition 15.  In 2012, she served as a flight engineer on Expedition 32 and then commander of Expedition 33.  Read much more about the amazing entire career of this Indian-decent woman here:

By the way, our ISS received Easter supplies Sunday morning via SpaceX company's cargo ship "Dragon" (whose company headquarters is in Hawthorne, California) which "spent two days chasing the International Space Station following its launch from Cape Canaveral. Astronauts used a robot arm to capture the capsule 260 miles above Egypt. More than 2 tons of food, spacewalking gear and experiments fill the Dragon, including mating fruit flies, a little veggie hothouse and legs for the resident robot. NASA also packed family care packages for the six spacemen." ---abclocal.go.com
