PHOTOS: Hollandia Nurseries 22nd Annual Fall Festival

Story and Photography
by Paula Antolini

Every year Hollandia Nurseries organizes a great event for autumn.  This year's fabulous 22nd Annual Fall Festival took place on Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6, 2013, at 103 Old Hawleyville Road in Bethel, Ct.

Autumn at Hollandia Nurseries is always one of the more pleasurable sights to see. The nursery was artfully arranged with beautiful fall plants that were a feast for the eyes.  It's so hard to choose just one color from all the pretty chrysanthemums in bloom that fill their greenhouses.

The numerous pumpkins on the haystacks were a delight for children and adults alike.  You could also tour the wonderful display of antique tractors, cars, trucks, antique engines and farm tools, always so interesting to see.

There were many other fun family activities for all to enjoy too.  Hayrides, face painting, and delicious food kept families entertained.

The great Tractor Pull competition is always so much fun to watch and draws huge crowds each year. Farmers in their overalls, driving all sorts of different old and new tractors, are hoping to haul the heaviest load and win this year's competition.  Tractor wheels spin, tractor fronts pop up off the ground, smoke puffs out, but they manage to haul heavier and heavier loads nonetheless, determined not to give up.

We thank you Hollandia Nurseries for bringing another touch of a "Norman Rockwell scene" to our little town of Bethel, that we love.
