Danbury Mayor Boughton Withdraws From "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" Organization

Posted by Paula Antolini

"Mayor Mark Boughton pulled his membership in the Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) organization citing changes to the organization rather than trying to curry favor with gun rights groups as part of his gubernatorial run," according to ctnews.com.  Boughton issued this statement Wednesday.

There is now a backlash of controversy over this, stemming from people such as Erica Lafferty, who is the daughter of slain Sandy Hook principal Dawn Hochsprung. She was hired by MAIG as an outreach coordinator last year, after her national advocacy efforts. She said she felt betrayed by Mayor Mark Boughton for putting politics over the safety of Connecticut residents when he announced that he was leaving the Mayors Against Illegal Guns organization, according to ctnews.com.

Democrats are also up in arms too, who "immediately took the opportunity to condemn Boughton for trying to pander to the NRA and gun rights supporters in his bid for governor," according to ctnews.com.

Also during his campaign to run for governor, Boughton's campaign recently deleted almost all of the critical comments from posters on his Facebook page regarding this gun control flip-flop, who support common sense gun laws.
