The Annual BMS PREMIER CONCERT Included Students Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

An impressive concert by Bethel Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th grade students had a wide selection of music and talent.

The Bethel Middle School (BMS) Music Department presented it's Annual PREMIER CONCERT on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 7:00p.m. in the BMS auditorium. 

Performances included: the Concert Choir directed by Mr. Todd Gorski, the String Chamber Orchestra directed by Mr. Richard Baumer, the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band directed by Mr. Rod Doble.  All students were from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

The program began with a choir performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" (F. S. Key, arranged by Todd Gorski) and continued with a medley of three songs from the broadway play "Newsies"  (Menken & Feldman, arranged by Roger Emerson). "Carrying the Banner" featured solos by Abby Emslie and Zoee Oliveira; "Santa Fe" featured solos by Stephen Emslie and Martha Kenny; and "King of New York."

The String Chamber Orchestra performed three selections "Seize the Day" ((Alan Menken), Cancion Del Amore (Tim McCarrick), and a Lady GaGa Hit Mix (arranged by Larry Moore).

The Symphonic Band performed "Pique Dame Highlights" (Franz Von Suppe, arranged by Ralph Ford), and "Ascend" (Samuel R. Hazo).

The Jazz Band performed "Soul Man" (Isaac Hayes and David Porter, arranged by David Murtha) featuring soloists Tim DeVita and Jessica Rosato; "Crunchy Frog" (Gordon Goodwin) featuring soloists Mike Renda and Cameron Klinefelter; "C-Jam Blues" (Duke Ellington, arranged by Rick Stitzel) featuring soloists Shawn Sato and Malcolm Williams; and "El Burrito Picante and the Chamber of Doom" (Mike Dana) featuring soloists Grayson Platt and Kimberly McGuire.

Some BMS students received special recognition for their achievements in music as follows:

Students in the Concert Choir that were accepted into the Western Region Middle School Choir:
Soprano: Hayley Andros, Allison Kellogg, Rachel Salvador, Alyssa Schneider;
Alto: Bridget Gorman, Meghan Savitsky;
Baritone: Steven Emslie, Robert Ruiz.

Students from the Symphonic Band accepted into the Western Region Concert Band:
Alto Saxophone: Michael Renda;
Baritone Horn: Cameron Klinefelter;
Clarinet: Maria D'Arco;
Trumpet: Abby Bozzuti.

Students from the String Chamber Orchestra accepted into the Fairfield County String Orchestra:
Violin: Gia Antolini
Violin: Cosette Domkofski.

Congratulations to music teacher Mr. Richard Baumer who has recently been voted BMS "Teacher of the Year."
