Bethel Police Scene Last Night: What Is All The Secrecy?

About 10:15 p.m. last night, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, two police cars were seen at the railroad crossing on Greenwood Avenue, along with one yellow utility truck and worker.

One police car left, and I approached the other police officer but he said did not want to comment, and he immediately drove away.

When I approached the utility worker near his truck he purposely quickly ran off without a word and disappeared into a shed next to the train tracks (close to Greenwood Avenue to the north) and closed the door and did not come out again. I believe there was another worker in there too. He peeked out several times but when seeing I was still there, closed the door again, once when I was on foot, and again when he saw my car pass and slow down a bit.

A call to the police station today provided no additional information.  I spoke to Dan Spinella, Dispatcher 424, asking him to provide information about the incident on Greenwood last night and he said, "I have no idea, usually press releases come out on a regular basis, I have no idea what happened on Greenwood last night."

Spinella said the press releases "can come out at any time and you can ask for the press release file, I have no idea what would be in there, I really don't know."  When asked for a time frame for the press release he stated, "Uh, I don't know, check back, the officer has to have time to write the reports and all, maybe check back tomorrow, I don't really know."

I replied, "Oh really that long?"  Spinella said, "I don't really know when they finish them. I'm saying the press releases are here."   When pressed further on what happened last night he said, "I don't know, I wasn't on last night so I have no idea."

I asked, "So you have no information at this time?" Spinella said, "No."

So what is all the mystery about that railroad tracks incident now?

Stay tuned, I will try to find out more.  Perhaps the railroad mechanism is not working properly?  Not sure, I can only guess at this point.  But why were police and workers there? And why no information today?

(See two photos here of police cars and then the railroad building.)
