Bethel is ALL PURPLE!

Report and Photography by Paula Antolini

Bethel is all PURPLE!!!! The American Cancer Society "PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE" event took place this week, preparing for the 2014 Relay for Life (Bethel/Danbury/Redding) event this June 13-14, 2014.

The American Cancer Society invited businesses, schools and local communities to show their awareness and support the fight against cancer in a very unique way.  The signature color of the Relay for Life is Purple - the color of all cancers.  To help finish the fight, businesses, schools, and community members could PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE by putting up purple-themed displays in store fronts, displaying provided purple bows, and other creative ideas such as swapping out white bulbs for purple bulbs.

Relay for Life volunteers were in town today distributing posters and purple ribbons to businesses, hanging banners, and tying purple ribbons to lamp posts during the PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE event.  Some of the volunteers were having a time of it today holding on to the purple balloons in high wind! But they managed to "PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE" thanks to the many business owners who graciously displayed Relay for Life posters and purple ribbons in their store windows and also turned their window displays purple or promoted purple food such as the yummy purple-sprinkled ice cream cones at The Square, where you can get purple ice cream too!

Relay for Life volunteers were busy little bees the past few days, also attaching Relay for Life posters to pizza boxes. We appreciate Bethel's Famous Pizza and Capri's Pizza allowing Relay for Life to get the word out to more people  about how important it is to find a cure for cancer.

Thank you to the many businesses that showed their support all week and helped to PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE in honor of Relay for Life!

Many more great fundraising activities are coming, check the Relay for Life website for more information and also more future posts on Patch.
