Bethel Rocks! - 4.5 TONS of Food Donated to the Stamp Out Hunger Drive

240 bins of food were donated by the people of Bethel to feed the hungry in town.

Just a brief entry today to let you know the results of the USPS postal carriers' Stamp Out Hunger drive. Bethel responded most generously, donating an estimated 4.5 tons of food to hungry people right here in Bethel (that's 240 letter crates at an estimated average weight of 38 pounds each).

Thank you people of Bethel for responding to the call,  thanks to the postal carriers for collecting all that food, thanks to the volunteers who helped move it, and thanks to Shepard's Incorporated for supplying the truck we used to haul it all away.

The attached photos will give you some idea of how the food moved from where you left it by your mailboxes to the "headquarters" of Brotherhood-In-Action of Bethel.  Plenty of volunteers showed up to help, and once the last postal vehicle came in all the food was stowed in around half an hour.

Around 40-50 bins were taken to St Thomas Episcopal Church, where they will be used for their year-round food pantry.  The rest of the food went to BIA, where it will be used for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter deliveries.  I'll tell you more about BIA in a future entry.
