Teaching in Bethel

I have had the honor of being a Bethel educator for the past two decades. I have seen educators, staff, administrators, and board of education members
come and go. I have witnessed the best and worst of times in Bethel. Throughout my career the teachers have been respected and their voices
valued and appreciated. That is, until now. We are no longer respected, valued, or appreciated. We have no voice.

Recently, the Bethel teachers completed a survey. The results were distressing, but not surprising. The Bethel teachers and staff are miserable; employee morale is at an all time low. I encourage the board of education and community members to request to review the survey results.

Administrators are being promoted from within, yet they have little or no experience. The board of education recently interviewed Bethel
administrators for top positions. These candidates received extensive coaching prior to the interview. Wouldn't you agree, our next superintendent should be involved in the hiring of his or her staff?

The current administration must relinquish control  allow the process of hiring a superintendent and associate superintendent to take place. Two
years ago the board of education made a mistake. They now have an opportunity to make it right. The board must put feelings and/or egos aside and hire a dedicated leader. The next superintendent must be committed to the schools and community. The board's decision will ultimately determine the future success or failure of Bethel Schools.
