I really like the taxes, especially the recent increase in sales tax and for clothing items. We are the number one state for per capita debt. The number 1 worst state for business. It's good to be number 1.Unfunded mandates, another great feature of Connecticut. Helps to drive up property taxes. Ya gotta love it!

Agreed. Loooove those taxes! And for those who would cry that perhaps jqp and I should then leave CT if we don't like it, I would counter and say that our State government needs to change and start being our servants and not our masters. Simple, really. Politics is for schmucks and the easily bamboozled, but proper governance changes history itself.

Here's what I like. I like that I live in the woods at the Redding/Bethel border, that in seven minutes I am in cute downtown Bethel for fresh ice cream, chocolate, milkshakes, and Sycamore Drive in. I like that another seven minutes or so away (on a good traffic day) that I can go downtown to Danbury every weekend of the summer and go to an amazing cultural festival. Or, if the mood strikes, I can drive 25 minutes in the other direction and go to the beach to watch the sunsets. I happen to really think CT is awesome....though those taxes are admittedly, not so great.

My point being, we do have a lot of good things going for us, but the cost and taxes are just horrendous!

Having recently moved to Bethel from NYC, I know that the taxes, although high, are significantly lower than across the border. I can also tell you that the people here are more pleasant, shopping is easier and more efficient, traffic (even on 84 and 53) moves better, and the air is breathable. We are glad we made the move!
