WWII Vet, Bethel School Bus Driver Alexander Maurizio, 85

Alexander Maurizio, age 85, of Bethel, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at Danbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of 56 years to Ruth Wheeler Maurizio.

He was born on May 14, 1928 in Queens, NY, a son of the late Alexander and Anna (Raffaele) Maurizio.


Mr. Maurizio fought in World War II serving in the Navy. He was a professional photographer who owned his own studio, Photographers III. He also worked at PerkinElmer, the Famous Artist School, and as a school bus driver in Bethel.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Richard A Maurizio of Bethel; a daughter, Carol Stan and her husband, Michael of Holden, MA; seven grandchildren, Anna Mia Maurizio, Phillip, Megan and Kevin Stan, Rachel, Adam and Brooke Hiatt; five great grandchildren, Cailyn, Alexander, Corey, Lilly, and Julianna; Four brothers, Anthony Maurizio and Francis Maurizio, both of Pt. Washington, NY, Mario Maurizio of Hookset, NH, and Rudolpho Maurizio of Brooklyn, NY.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Maurizio.

Funeral Information

The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at 8:30 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 p.m. until the time of the service at 8:30 p.m.
