'Tony' Tomaino, Korean War Vet, Passes Away at 80

Tomaino was a Mason in Local 22, an avid golfer, a husband, father and grandfather.

Anthony “Tony” Tomaino, 80, long-time resident of Bethel, passed away on February 14th at Danbury Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Danbury, CT on June 27, 1932, the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Gillotti) Tomaino.

He attended Danbury schools and was a mason for Local 22 for many years. He served in the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans, Catholic War Veterans, VFW, Vails Grove Golf Course and Richter Park Senior Men’s League.

Tony was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling and playing cards, entertaining friends over a cup of coffee and discussing politics. In his later years, he enjoyed scratch off tickets and feeding the birds and squirrels.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Georgette (Lacroix) Tomaino and his 4 children: Laureen Kellner and husband Ron of Bethel, Gary Tomaino and wife Michelle of Denville, NJ, Karen Chiaramonte of Danbury, and Diane Tomaino Guadagno and husband Tommy of Bethel. He is survived by his 3 grandchildren: Vincent Chiaramonte, Marisa Tomaino and Ryan Kellner.

He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Baldino of Meriden, Roseanne Dardis of Brookfield, Charlene Braden of Bethel,and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary (Butchie) Baldino and Palma Pannozza.

Friends and family may call at the Cornell Memorial Home on Tuesday February 19, between the hours of 4 and 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 20th at St. Mary's Church in Bethel.
