Tom O'Neil, 66: Vietnam Veteran, Switchman, Softball Coach

O'Neil was a coach with the Bethel Softball Association. He leaves behind a son, daughter and five grandchildren.

Thomas Donald O’Neil, Jr., age 66 of Bethel, CT, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Tom was born in New Rochelle, NY, October 2, 1946, son of the late Thomas D. O’Neil, Sr. and Helen (Edwards) O’Neil. He was a 1964 graduate of Mamaroneck High School and served in the Third Marine Division during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Switchman all his life, most recently with Southern New England Telephone Company. He was a former coach of with the Bethel Softball Association and then was an Umpire with the American Softball Association.

He is survived by his son: Thomas D. O’Neil, III and daughter: Katie O’Neil both of New Milford, CT; sister: Renee O’Neil of Stoughton, MA as well as five grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter: Kasey Lynne O’Neil.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethel Softball Association, Inc., c/o Joy Kisling, 9 Colonial Dr., Bethel, CT 06801.

A memorial service will take place at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Bethel, Thursday morning at 10:00. There are no calling hours. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel.
