Patrick Richardson, 64: 'Always At Peace on the Water'

John Patrick Richardson, 64, died at the beginning of July, 2013 at his home in Lexington MA.

Mr. Richardson was born June 15, 1949 in New Rochelle, NY, the eldest son of John O. Richardson and Catherine B. (Zeigler) Richardson.  He was raised in Bethel, CT where he attended Bethel Schools, and graduated from Immaculate High School in Danbury CT in 1967.

Patrick attended Western New England College in Springfield, MA before transferring, and graduating from Northeastern University in Boston, MA with a major in mathematics in 1972. He formed close bonds while at NU with fellow students and neighbors, and kept in contact with them for more than 40 years. Friends that Patrick made, would be friends for life, and that friendship also passed on to their children. In 1976 Patrick bought a home and moved to Lexington, MA. He started his career at Megapulse in Bedford, MA. As was his way, he stayed in contact with his coworkers at a monthly luncheon.  He also worked for Identicon, Encomp, Computer Identics and his own company Richardson & M before finding employment at MIT Lincoln Lab’s through Telos and most currently at Solidus Technical Solutions since 2002 as a Senior Software Engineer.

As a young man, Mr. Richardson had a passion for motorcycles, but as he matured his focus moved on to sailing. Patrick loved to sail and used his mathematical skills to become a skilled navigator, or nav-a-guesser, as he would say. He sailed with the Blue Water Sailing Club in Manchester, making many runs to Bermuda and Maine. He occasionally helped crew boats down or back from the Caribbean. He was at peace on the water.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by one sister, Cathie (Richardson) Murdock and her husband, George of Bethlehem, CT; one brother, Robert M. Richardson of Bethel, CT and Robert’s long time companion, Holly Marcin of Brookfield, CT, one goddaughter, Kate Chisholm of Milton, MA and a world of friends that he had touched and who will miss him dearly. A service will be held at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, MA on Monday July 29, 2013 at 04:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Patrick’s favorite charities: ALS Therapy Development Institute, www.ALS.net; or The Angel Fund, 649 Main Street, Wakefield, MA 01880 or www.theangelfund.org.
