Obituary: Joan Patricia Hancock

Joan Patricia Hancock died on November 8, 2011 at the age 82.

Joan Patricia (Steck) Hancock of Newington, CT, formerly of Bethel, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Newington Health Care Center. Joan was born the daughter of the late Howard A. and Grace L. (Daley) Steck in Bethel on December 11, 1928. She grew up in Bethel and was a graduate of Bethel High School. She attended Western Connecticut State College and worked at Barden Corporation and the Danbury Hospital before becoming an Administrative Assistant at Union Carbide (now Dow) until her retirement at age 65. She enjoyed working with Bob Burzak at Union Carbide.

Joan was known by her colleagues, family and friends as a classy lady. She was also known to be feisty and always kept abreast with politics and news. She treasured her family and friends, was fun-loving, intelligent, generous, kind and beautiful. She taught by example to love God and family.

She is survived by her son: Richard H. Hancock and his wife Paula of Cheshire, CT; daughter: Joan Hancock Laskowski of Newington, CT; sister: Priscilla Wakuluk and her husband Augustine of The Villages, FL: Grandchildren: Richard Hancock of Newtown, CT, Michael Laskowski and his wife Kathy, Kelly Laskowski Coughlin and her husband JJ of Taunton, MA; three great grandchildren: Grace, Kaylin & Abigail Laskowski as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Peck Bruen.

Joan and her family would like to thank her doctor, Dr. Yetil, who not only cared for her, but always showed compassion and concern. She received loving care from the nurses and staff at Newington Heath Care Nursing Home in Newington, CT.

The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT on Saturday, November 12 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel.
