Obituary: Eric David Sengelen

Eric David Sengelen, painter and artist, dies at the age of 36.

Eric David Sengelen, beloved son of Charles and Judith (Patren) Sengelen, died at home in Bethel on Feb. 28, 2012. He was born in Danbury on July 14, 1975, and graduated with Bethel High School’s class of 1993.

He fought a year long battle against cancer with tremendous courage and an admirable inner strength. Besides his parents, he leaves behind both his twin brother Jason Sengelen and big brother Carey Sengelen of Danbury. Holidays and gatherings with his extended family members were especially meaningful to him. In addition, he truly valued his memories of, and times spent with, his life-long friends. In the end, his eternal optimism enabled him to never give up hope during his journey with illness.

Eric graduated from Western CT State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in illustration, at which time he was also awarded the WCSU Antonio Albertti Award for Excellence in Painting, the WCSU Most Promise in Watercolor, and honorable mention at the CT State University System Student Art Exhibition for his various works in acrylics.
