Korean War Vet, Bethel Firefighter Larry Cyr Sr, 86

Lawrence “Larry” Joseph Cyr, Sr., age 86 of Bethel, CT, passed away at Pope John Paul II Center for Health in Danbury on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. He was the husband of Augustina “Tina” (Perusse) Cyr.

Larry was born July 9, 1927 in Waterbury, CT, a son of the late Jude and Helen (Fortin) Cyr. He grew up in the Stamford, CT area and was a 1947 graduate of Stamford High School.

After High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Larry was employed in the auto body department of the former Dan-Ridge Chevrolet Inc. in Danbury and also served as a Bethel Police Officer.

He retired in 1989 after more than 20 years with the Bethel Highway Department and moved to Brandon, VT. Larry returned back to Bethel in 2007 to live closer to his family.

He was a member of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years and also a member of the Joseph Tarrant American Legion Post 100 in Bethel.

Besides spending time with his loving wife, Tina and his family and friends, Larry’s favorite pastimes were gardening, crafting wooden birdhouses and maintaining his home and automobiles.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Larry is survived by two sons, Lawrence J. Cyr, Jr. (Larry) and his wife Linda of Bethel, CT and Keith Cyr and his wife Debe of Danbury, CT; two grandchildren, William T. Cyr of Indiana and Laurel R. Cyr of Bethel, CT; and a brother, Richard Cyr and his wife Barbara of Bethel, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three brothers, Albert Cyr of Redding, Clarence Cyr of Byram and Louis Cyr of Danbury; and a sister, Carolyn Cassavechia of Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Bethel, on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, CT.

Family will receive friends in the Bethel Funeral Home located at 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, on Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
